a few days before christmas I became the proud owner of nice a second hand 4 shaft loom. As such things usually go it was completely unplanned, very spontaneous and totally out of control. An aquaintant of mine posted the loom in the name of a friend of hers who is moving. It had a very reasonable price and - well - I was the first to ask. By sheer luck, I could collect it only an hours drive away and then plans set in and went all wrong. I had planned to assemble the loom right away over the holidays. But then Mum had her accident and nothing worked out anymore. Yesterday, I was finally able to clear the space where the loom shall reside in future and now I am confronted with a huge 3D puzzle - and feel like I'm missing all the corners.
This is how it looks right now:
and this is how it should look like after assembly
In my head, I'm already weaving. I would love to do some basic twill weaving for dyeing but right now, I'm looking for corners to start.
Mum's mending and now we are waiting for a place in the geriatrics department of the county hospital. She won't be able to put weight on the leg for another 6-12 weeks so I can't take care of her at home. She weighs nearly 30 kg more than I do and is not the athletic type. The nurses in the hospital do their best but they are understaffed and underfunded and in a way a lot care depends on the relatives. Right now, I am really, really glad, we didn't sell our car yet. And I come to think that as long as Mum's still alive, we should stick to it. Just for emergencies like this.
